A message from our principal:
Dear Parents and whānau of Year 8 students,
As your child approaches the end of their primary school journey, you are undoubtedly reflecting on the best possible path for their continued education. This is an important and exciting decision, one that will shape their future development, both academically and personally.
At Christchurch Rudolf Steiner School, we understand that every child is unique, with their own set of talents, interests, and potential. Our approach to education is holistic, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and a deep connection to the world around them. As you consider options for your child’s secondary schooling, I invite you to explore what Rudolf Steiner education can offer.
Why Choose Christchurch Rudolf Steiner School?
Holistic Development
Rudolf Steiner education is centred on the development of the whole child. Our curriculum is designed to balance intellectual, artistic, and practical learning, ensuring that students are well-rounded individuals. We believe in cultivating both head and heart, preparing students not just for exams, but for life.
Individualised Learning
We recognise that every student learns differently. Our teachers are committed to understanding each student’s unique strengths and challenges, tailoring their approach to meet individual needs. This personalised attention helps students thrive and develop a love for learning.
Strong Sense of Community
At Christchurch Rudolf Steiner School, we foster a close-knit community where students, teachers, and parents collaborate to support each child’s journey. This sense of belonging and mutual respect creates a nurturing environment in which students feel safe and valued.
Creative and Critical Thinking
In our school, creativity is not just a subject but a way of thinking. Students are encouraged to explore, question, and innovate. Our curriculum integrates arts, sciences, and humanities in ways that inspire students to think critically and creatively, skills that are essential in today’s ever-changing world.
Connection to Nature and the Environment
Our school is deeply rooted in a connection to nature. Students regularly engage in outdoor learning experiences that promote environmental awareness and stewardship. This hands-on approach helps students develop a respect for the natural world and understand their role in sustaining it.
Values-Based Education
We place a strong emphasis on moral and ethical development. Through our curriculum and school culture, students learn the importance of empathy, responsibility, and integrity. These values guide them as they navigate their teenage years and beyond.
Truly Child Centred
We recognise that education is about learning, and not about uniforms, conformity, or hair styles. We value each and every child / young adult as an individual.
Structure
As we strive hard to develop the whole child / young adult, we also recognise that young people need structure. As a result we still have timetables, scheduled classes and rules and routines – and we recognise that sometimes adults need to guide the choices that students make, or make those decisions for them.
As you weigh the options for your child’s secondary education, I encourage you to visit us at Christchurch Rudolf Steiner School. See for yourself how our unique approach to education could be the right fit for your child’s continued growth and success. We are confident that the values and skills they develop here will serve them well throughout their lives.
Our next Open Day will be announced shortly, in the meantime please feel free to contact us to arrange a visit or to discuss any questions you may have. We would be delighted to welcome you and your child to our school community.
Warm regards,
Paul Kennedy, Principal
